Remove DC's K Street Tunnel Speed Cams

Remove DC's K Street Tunnel Speed Cams
The Issue
The two speeds cameras located at 2200 K Street NW (in the tunnel under Washington Circle) are dangerous because drivers slam on their breaks in the middle of the underpass to avoid being caught in the trap. The cameras are set to 25 MPH, which makes no sense in such a location. K Street is notoriously congested because of the cross streets and stop lights (and people trying to turn as pedestrians are crossing). The underpass is the natural place in which drivers would accelerate - there is no danger in each direction. Yet the city has intentionally placed the cameras there to generate revenue. Those two cameras - one for Westbound traffic and one for Eastbound traffic - are the most profitable speed cameras in the city, and have been for year. This isn't about our safety - in fact, the presence of those cameras endangers drivers.
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser should immediately remove those cameras, or see that the acceptable speed limit there is raised to more accurately reflect the environment.
