Currently the District of Columbia is weighing its options to fund certain projects out of its $100M fund and we need to ensure Delta Towers is a priority. This is your chance to help 179 seniors afford to continue living in Washington, D.C. The benefits associated with this project are as follows:
- Preserve 149 units of senior housing while at the same time introducing 30 new units
Invest $67 million in Ward 5, particularly, the H Street/Benning Road Corridor/Atlas District
Create job opportunities: temporary (construction) and permanent (property management)
Create long-term affordable units to meet the housing needs for low income seniors
Creation of high-quality, transit-oriented, sustainable mixed-use development that enhances an under-utilized parcel
The proposed development will consist of approximately 179 units of independent senior housing at the intersection of Bladensburg Road, Florida Avenue, Maryland Ave and Benning Road NE. The new building would replace an aging building at the end of its useful life. This project will ensure Delta Housing Corporation of the District of Columbia continues to carry out its mission of providing affordable housing for independent seniors for many more years to come along the rapidly gentrifying H Street corridor. Also, the new building not only preserves the 149 current seniors but also introduces 30 new affordable units. All 179 units will be income-restricted to seniors age 55 and older earning up to 30% AMI. In addition to 179 units of much needed independent housing for District seniors, the development will feature state-of-the-art amenity space that will foster social interaction amongst the residents including, a club/community room, fitness center, and laundry facilities, in addition to a management office.
