A deer that had been living in a park in Harlemwas captured by the police early Thursday after wandering onto a lawn at a nearby housing complex, and he will be killed, a spokeswoman for Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The deer, a white-tailed buck with one antler, is now at the city animal shelter in East Harlem.

He will be put to death because state regulations prohibit relocating deer except for scientific purposes, and New York City does not intend to release the deer "back into the busy and dense borough of Manhattan,” said Natalie Grybauskas, the spokeswoman.

“We’re sort of backed into a corner here,” she said. “It’s not so much a decision as it is ‘this is the option.’”
