Staten Island has the highest levels of smog among the city's five boroughs, according to the American Lung Association's 2018 "State of the Air" report. Air pollution poses a great threat to our human health and our planet as a whole. Exposure to polluted air continues to affect our health by entering our lungs and may enter our bloodstream, this creates a health emergency. Air pollution may also contribute to contaminating bodies of water and soil — destroying crops and decreasing their produce. Furthermore, air contaminants also negatively affects our wildlife. Some examples include birds at risk due to coal power production exhaust — damaging their respiratory systems. Clearly, it is crucial that individuals participate in actions that reduce air pollution and boost the health and wellness of communities as well as our one and only Earth.
