Petition Regarding Proposed Homeless Shelter at 83 to 97 Apollo Street and 106 Hausman St.

Petition Regarding Proposed Homeless Shelter at 83 to 97 Apollo Street and 106 Hausman St.
To Mayor DeBlasio Emily Gallagher Stephen T. Levin Brooklyn Community Board #1 and all other city, state, and Federal elected officials:
We the concerned resident of Greenpoint Brooklyn, submit this petition to you to oppose the building of the Homeless Shelter on the site of 83 to 97 Apollo Street and 106 Hausman Street.
This Shelter is sited to hold 148 beds for homeless men. While we support the city's efforts to house the homeless, we believe that locating 83 to 97 Apollo street and 106 Hausman Street for the homeless is not fair to our community. By means of this petition, we would like to voice our opposition to this shelter as it is currently planned. No public meetings were held in the community about the shelter being built, we did not have a chance to voice our opinion on this matter.
Furthermore, a school, daycare and park are within walking distance of this proposed homeless shelter. If and when this homeless shelter is to be built, the invitation of mal-intended individuals will increase, leaving children and families who walk to/from school independently to be at greater risk for harm.
As if it's not bad enough, that this area has been saturated by environmental conditions that have negatively impacted us over the years.
We ask that you oppose it and that before any further action is taken that you hold a public hearing where we can come and speak publicly about why this proposed facility can not be built here. You must demonstrate your commitment to transparency to the people who have elected you to your positions.
We have included our names, addresses and emails. We demand a response from our Brooklyn Community Board #1, as well as our mayor, city councilman, senator, assembly members and whoever else had anything to do with the okay of this project.
