Friends:

A brief update on how the call for open schools is coming along in NYC.  Even though schools are technically open, you may have noticed your own school repeatedly shutting down due to NYC’s arbitrary 2-case-closure rule.

Under this rule, if two unlinked cases of COVID-19 are found within a public school building within a seven day period, no matter its size or population, the Department of Education (DOE) closes all schools co-located within that building for 10 days. This overly conservative and unnecessarily disruptive rule is the biggest hindrance to keeping the City’s public elementary and District 75 schools open.

Last week we sent a letter to local elected officials and media about the 2 case rule but have yet to receive a response. Please share this letter with your local City Council member - you can find yours here.

On Wednesday, February 3rd at 9 AM please join us at City Hall for a rally demanding the immediate reopening of our middle and high schools and an end to the arbitrary 2 case rule. Details / RSVP may be found here: https://fb.me/e/5Pj1RTssY
