Stop Petland From Selling Puppies in Old Bridge, NJ

The Issue

Petland d/b/a Safari Stan's Pet Center is opening soon in Old Bridge, NJ. Petland sources its puppies from large scale commercial breeding operations otherwise known as puppy mills.  Petland's stores have a well documented history of sick and dying puppies, diseases that are transmittable to humans as well as numerous consumer complaints and lawsuits.

Breeding dogs in puppy mills are commodities. They are no different than the dogs who live in our homes; however, they are not pampered pets. They live their whole lives in cramped wire cages with little or no protection from the elements. They receive little human attention or veterinary care.  They don't sleep on soft beds, go for long walks or play with toys.  Once they are no longer useful, they are often abandoned or killed.

As a consumer, I will boycott all businesses in Old Bridge until such time that an ordinance is passed banning the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits with no grandfathering provision. I will instead patronize businesses in surrounding towns that do not allow stores that keep puppy mills in business. Such towns include Marlboro, East Brunswick, Matawan, South Amboy and Sayreville. As long as Old Bridge cares more about revenue than ethics, I will take my business elsewhere.
