Mayor Adams: Help Mott Haven Thrive and Prioritize Investment into Our Communities

Mayor Adams: Help Mott Haven Thrive and Prioritize Investment into Our Communities
The Issue
We, the people of Mott Haven, demand greater and more meaningful investment in our community. To do so requires that New York City build affordable housing, provide economic opportunities for small businesses, prioritize our youth and senior residents, support community land trusts and foster safe, thriving neighborhoods.
With an eye towards Mott Haven’s future, our new Mayor, Eric Adams, and other partners and legislators in government can help move our community forward with critical investments that bolster our neighborhood and its people, including:
- Supporting community-led planning like the Diego Beekman Neighborhood Plan, which includes a proposal at 351 Powers Ave. to build more affordable housing units for seniors;
- Supporting locally-owned retail and community services to create a more sustainable community that better serves an aging population;
- Investing in Mott Haven-targeted public and social infrastructure including schools, parks, streets and subway stations that improve residents’ quality of life; and
- Recommitting to enhanced public safety and mental health services to ensure our streets and communities remain safe and vibrant.
Mott Haven is in urgent need of thoughtful community planning initiatives to improve our neighbors’ economic outcomes and quality of life. Mayor Adams can play a vital role in helping us achieve these crucial goals now.
New York City is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, but Mott Haven also contains one of the poorest congressional districts in the country. It doesn’t have to be that way, not if Mayor Adams and other legislators join us in solidarity to make the long overdue investments in our community that our families and children deserve today and for future generations of Mott Haven families to come.
Sincerely,
Diego Beekman
