Maximus Inc: Corporate Predator Exploiting Our Most Vulnerable Citizens

The Issue

Dear Fellow Citizens:

Starting on Mother’s Day, we are calling on elected officials, state government agencies, and shareholders to take immediate action to hold Maximus Inc. accountable for their exploitative practices.

Maximus is a private company that provides public services, including healthcare, education, and social services, to citizens across the country. However, Maximus has a long history of profiting from the vulnerability of American’s including Veterans, Disabled individuals, Low-income Families, and especially Children in Foster Care. Maximus’s corporate greed knows no bounds, and has extended their reach from the prison-industrial complex and into healthcare and social services. Maximus’s use of Foster Children alone, as a “revenue generating mechanism” is a shocking and shameless example of the profit-driven approaches that have infiltrated our public support systems.

Recent reports have raised serious concerns about Maximus engaging in exploitive practices such as:

- Mishandling foster care and adoptions, resulting in delayed or denied placements and adoptions of children in need of a safe home.

- Failing to adequately train employees to process veteran’s disability claims, resulting in extensive delays and wrongful denial of benefits.

- Understaffing and overworking employees, leading to high turnover and burnout

- Failing to adequately train employees to provide high-quality services to clients

- Prioritizing profits over the needs and well-being of the communities they serve

- Engaging in unethical and potentially illegal practices, such as falsifying records and over-billing government agencies

These practices not only harm our vulnerable citizens, but also undermine the integrity of government programs and erode public trust in the government's ability to provide essential services to those in need.

Maximus is also a central player in the current dis-enrollment of 15 million Medicaid patients, generating profits by erecting barriers to make it harder for patients to get the care they need. “The company that stands to profit the most during Medicaid redeterminations is Maximus, the largest Medicaid eligibility and enrollment administrator with a 60% market share.”

As we launch this campaign, Maximus' recently announced that they are “projecting their annual revenue to reach between $4.85 billion and $5 billion in 2023.” This is a clear indication that this company has been profiting from the exploitation of vulnerable citizens for far too long.

We believe that Maximus's practices are unacceptable, unethical, and must be stopped. We are calling on elected officials, government agencies, shareholders and the GAO, to take immediate action to hold Maximus accountable. This includes increasing oversight and regulation of private companies that provide public services and advocating for legislation that prioritizes the well-being and safety of all members of our society. We demand a thorough investigation into Maximus Inc.'s practices and to take appropriate action to hold the company and all executives accountable for any wrongdoing. This could include revoking any licenses or permits that the company may hold or imposing fines and penalties.

By signing this petition, please add your vote to the growing movement to ending Maximus’s exploitative practices. We demand that our elected officials and government agencies take immediate action to address this issue and conduct a thorough investigation. All American citizens deserve to have access to high-quality, affordable, and ethical public services. Let’s use our collective voice and power to demand a system that prioritizes the well-being of our communities, and not just the profits of private companies!

Stay tuned for updates, #BoycottMaximus!
