Maximum Sentence for Man Who Cut Off His Dog Karma’s Leg

Belle Glade, FL: In one of the worst cases of animal cruelty that Palm Beach Animal Control has ever seen, Luc Jean Baptiste has been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty. Jean Baptiste allegedly hog-tied his 10-year-old dog, duct-taped her mouth shut, and removed part of her front leg using a saw. According to officials, Jean Baptiste said he removed the dog’s leg because it was injured.

The sweet 10-year-old pit bull mix dog is now at Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Seven other adult dogs and four puppies were also taken from the home. Palm Beach County ACC's director, Dianne Sauve, named the dog Karma, saying “what goes around comes around.”

Karma also has a severe infection in her uterus, which shows she was probably used for breeding. A veterinarian will perform surgery to remove her uterus, as well as repair her leg. Once she is healed, Karma is expected to be put up for adoption.

This petition respectfully requests that if found guilty, Luc Jean Baptiste receives the maximum sentence allowable under law for animal cruelty and that he never again be allowed to own animals.
