A seriously deranged Council Bluffs, Iowa, man has been charged with animal torture, bestiality, and indecent exposure after admitting to having attempted sex with a cat and then throwing it from a seventh-floor apartment window.

On August 3, police responded to calls from concerned citizens that a man was exposing himself and that a cat had been thrown from a window. It was not until police arrived on the scene that they realized the two seemingly disparate events were related. Upon reaching the address indicated by callers, they found a gray cat on the sidewalk, bleeding and barely breathing. The defenseless feline later died of its injuries.

The man responsible for the inhumane acts was identified as Gerardo Martinez, age 30.

After officers identified the apartment from which the witnesses said the cat had been thrown, they accosted the occupant who turned out to be Martinez. According to the police report, the suspect answered the door shirtless and with his pants still around his ankles.

Police arrested Martinez and witnesses identified him as the man they had seen at the window.

Martinez faces up to five years in jail if convicted.
