Organizations that have already achieved No Kill agree that the single most important variable in reaching success is to have an Executive Director who wholeheartedly embraces No Kill.  Without that kind of leadership at the helm, the shelter will sink back into the morass of killing.  Entire cities have gone No Kill, including Austin, Texas (a city with a much larger population than Maui).  The Nevada Humane Society in Reno went No Kill in less than one year.  They took an open-admission shelter (like Maui Humane Society) and turned an 80+% kill ratio into a 92% save ratio.  Los Angeles, California (a huge city) has embraced No Kill and is working towards that goal.

Compassionate, loving care for animals does NOT include killing them to lower their population.  Killing is NOT a kindness.   It is the final immoral injustice. Maui Humane Society has been killing animals as a method of controlling their population for 60 years.  It has not worked.  How many times, how many years must one repeat an action to finally understand it is not working?  The success of hundreds and hundreds of animal shelters that have gone No Kill is well documented at www.nokilladvocacycenter.org

It's time to stop the killing and a new Maui Humane Society Executive Director who totally embraces No Kill can make that happen with community support behind them.   The Maui community does not like the killing.  Neither do our tourists.  No Kill has been implemented elsewhere.  We can do it too.

To the Maui Community, to the people of Hawaii and to the tourists that read this petition, please sign it and forward it on.  It will be presented to the Maui Humane Society Board of Directors and to the Maui County Council Members both of which are central to bringing No Kill to Maui.  However, it IS the Board of Maui Humane Society that is charged with the task of replacing the present Executive Director, Jocelyn Bouchard, who has resigned.

Please forward this on to as many people as possible and post on all social media organizations (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)  Please help the animals.

On behalf of the animals your actions can save, I thank you.
