Matthew Stephens, CEO: Stop the Plans to Shrink Courtside Gymnasium

Please stop the plans to cut the current Courtside basketball court by 10 feet to accommodate a “cycling studio”. This new proposed court is not even a standard size highschool court. This change will result in a significant amount of members leaving the gym as well as a poor basketball experience at the Club.
Basketball is a key activity for the Courtside community, with a known 150 members (and their families) that use the gym many times a week. Please note that the 150 number only includes the members in the Courtside Basketball League…. This does not include the many others who utilize this gym. By eliminating the adjustable hoop you will prevent hundreds of kids from shooting on that hoop. Many times during the day parents bring their children into the gym to shoot and play on a smaller hoop while the adults play on the regulation hoops.
Many of the members in the basketball league have joined Courtside exclusively to play basketball either through the pick up games or the league games. There are 3 leagues annually that cost $150 per person per league ($450 total a year on top of the courtside dues). These members also contribute to the community via Courtside by having charitable 3-point contests multiple times a year that raise money for causes like Breast Cancer, Red Cross relief efforts etc.
We believe there is a plethora of real estate and or other options at the Courtside facility where you can utilize this new “cycling facility”. By cutting the court, you will lose members, have a negative experience at the gym and degrade the quality that Courtside stands for. We urge you to reconsider alternative options for this “cycling need."
