You may remember that in late 2015, you signed our petition highlighting the racism at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) NHS Trust, and calling for the Trust Board to step down. Your support was very much appreciated and since that time, most of the Trust Board have departed the organisation. Unfortunately, despite this, the institutional racism in the Trust has become even worse. The Interim Chief Executive and Chairman who were in post from 2016-17 ignored the matter entirely and failed to engage at all. In April 2017 the Trust Board for Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust began an agreement whereby they would lead BSUH Trust for a minimum of three years. We have learned today that the Board has decided to dismiss Dr Vivienne Lyfar-Cissé from her role as the Trust's race equality lead. Vivienne is also the Chair of the BME Network and a long-time campaigner against the racism in the Trust. This is a travesty and cannot be allowed to stand.
