Local firefighters, including my partner, struggle to make ends meet. We are nearly 30 and cannot afford to save for a mortgage. Like many, my partner is oncall for 110 plus hours a week to ensure the safety of our local community and gets paid £1.10 an hour for being oncall. In a recent meeting lead by an East Midlands Station Officer, firefighters who put their lives at risk to save others were told that their pay is going to be cut! The local station already struggles to get full time staff due to the lack of pay yet this is such a needed service.
