Nurses have proven, more than ever, that they are essential when we are at our most vulnerable. We believe that they should be rewarded for their work and dedication throughout their career. It is an essential job and one that has been even more prominent at this exceptional time.

It is because they carry out life saving work day after day that they should be paid accordingly. Their wage should reflect the importance of their job. No nurse should have to rely on food banks and hand outs to survive. 

If wages were paid out on a scale of importance to society, then nurses pay would be one of the highest. In the USA the average wage of a nurse is in the region of $134,000. In the UK some nurses get paid as little as £19,000.

This is why I propose that when we are over the worst of this latest pandemic, the government offer the NHS nurses and associated grades a substantial pay rise in the region of between 100% to 200%. This would go some way for the country to say a big thank you and pay them only what they deserve.

In order to fund this pay increase we should raise the money by taxing those who can afford it most.
