The Issue

In 2018 Northamptonshire County Council announed "the precautionary gritting network has been assessed and, as of Winter 2018, the total length of roads gritted will be reduced from 1954km to 1543km (reduction of 21%)".

Icy weather threatens pedestrian and road users' lives. The BBC reported in October 2018 Council gritter cuts could 'hit' the eldery, also that Nene and Corby CCG have concerns these cuts impact on "vulnerable people", which could leave doctors and nurses "unable to get into work". The council's own impact assessment revealed a negative impact on rural areas.

Leaving vital roads no longer on a preventive gritting route is risky for everybody.

Please reinstate preventive gritting in Northamptonshire, there are 4,142,801 motor vehicles in Northamptonshire, please keep us safe
