Mattel, Inc. which is one of the largest toy companies in the world has been making headlines with the way they're redirecting the way Barbie is portrayed. They're now making a bigger effort in producing dolls with different skin tones, hair textures, height and body shapes. In the past and in recent years they've also made headlines for making diverse celebrity barbie dolls like Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Ava Duvernay, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and many more.

As a huge Selena fan and Barbie collector, we want Mattel to create an official Selena doll in her likeness. There has yet to be any curvy Hispanic barbie dolls in any Barbie line and we think Selena is a perfect candidate for that kind of representation. Selena was truly a person to be admired and I think young girls and boys would appreciate having a Selena doll in their collection.

Grammy Award winning artist Selena Quintanilla-Perez or simply known as Selena, is one of the worlds most adored Latin celebrities. With over 70 million records sold world wide, she was an incredibly talented musician/fashion designer/entrepreneur. She was a pioneer for Latin women who helped break down racial and sexist barriers in the entertainment industry. 20+ years since her tragic passing her legacy is stronger than ever, till this day Selena continues to win accolades, break records and continues to inspire new talent. Unlike other celebrities who believe fame is a burden, Selena embraced it and made a conscious effort to use her star power to help people in need. She participated in many charity softball games, she was an advocate for Battered women, she participated in Anti-Drug campaigns and she would often take time out of her busy schedule to visit schools to talk to children about the importance of education. In the past there has been Selena dolls but never an official Selena doll done by Barbie (Mattel) themselves. In 1997 Arm Enterprise released 2 limited edition Selena dolls, those dolls have since become collectors items and they're very hard to obtain over in the secondary market. In 2006 an amateur toy company called DTM joined forces with Q-Productions (the Quintanilla's production company) where they then released 2 new Selena dolls. Because this was an amateur toy company there was quality issues and they also lacked a likeness to Selena herself...

Since Mattel is the largest toy company in the world and they have done dolls after celebrities. I think they will definitely do an amazing job immortalizing Selena into an official high quality Barbie doll. Especially now since they are making dolls in different body types, hair textures and skin colors. They need to capture Selena's facial features, physical attributes (the original booty) and her flamboyant sense of style. I hope this petition gets Barbie's attention, please someone at Barbie or Mattel reach out to Q-Productions or Selena's family and negotiate a deal to make this happen!
