Rowan Fernandez started this petition to Mattel

In late 2017, the long-running and beloved Thomas Wooden Railway line was discontinued and replaced with the Thomas Wood line. The Wood line had many changes that the fans disliked; the engines were half-painted, bigger engines had smaller models, and the track was incompatible with that of Thomas Wooden Railway and other leading wooden train systems like BRIO, Melissa and Doug, and Orbrium. This naturally led to negative reception and poor sales. Despite Mattel's attempts to improve the line such as giving the engines full coats of paint again and re-introducing classic characters like Edward, Henry, and Toby, these weren't enough to save it. On June 27, 2021, Mattel announced they would be discontinuing the Wood line, as they no longer had the funding to continue the line. Since late 2017, Mattel has made many questionable decisions that have hurt Thomas more than help it. In addition to discontinuing Wooden Railway, they also pulled the TV show from PBS and made DVD releases more scarce. They've also planned an All Engines Go! reboot, which is far more cartoony and less grounded in realism than the show originally was, going completely against the vision of the late Rev. W. Awdry, author of the Railway Series books that the TV series is based on. Many fans feel that Thomas can only improve in quality if another company acquires the rights, and I personally feel that Orbrium could be that company.

Orbrium is one of the leading wooden railway systems I have jumped ship to after Wood replaced Wooden Railway, and for good reasons. Despite not having the Thomas license as of yet, Orbrium does make their products with Thomas Wooden Railway in mind. They make their train cars the same scale as Thomas Wooden Railway, and among the things they've made are a set of express coaches (due to the official Thomas Wooden Railway ones being rare and expensive), and a line of unpainted engines and rolling stock, including open wagons shaped like the Troublesome Trucks and brake vans shaped like Toad. I think that Orbrium would be a great candidate for making their own official line of Thomas wooden trains if they were able to acquire the license from Mattel.
