Help the unhoused in Portland by donating sequoia plots to Right 2 Dream Too.

The Issue

For months now, activists in Portland's wealthy Eastmoreland neighborhood have been fighting to preserve three 150 year old sequoia trees.  The trees are magnificent, but they were sentenced to be cut down to make room for a few houses built by Portland developer Vic Remmers.

At the same time, the city of Portland has been looking for a site suitable to relocate the Right 2 Dream Too  community for the unhoused. A recent proposal to relocate this community to an empty lot in an industrial section of SE Portland was met with stiff resistance.  Neighbors, including Eastmoreland Neighborhood President (and chair of the board of the Southeast Uplift neighborhood coalition), opposed this relocation on many grounds including: poor air quality, noise from trains, and lack of access to transit and grocery stores.

The site of the trees 3654 SE Martins St. is an 11 minute walk from a Safeway, is near a frequent transit bus line, has access to magnificent outdoor spaces, and enjoys tranquility and good air quality.  Furthermore, having the most affluent players in Portland (Mayor Charlie Hales lives in the neighborhood) as neighbors would allow residents of Right 2 Dream Too access to jobs and power in the community.

Matt Stone, of South Park fame, has apparently donated to help purchase this land and preserve these trees. Thank you, Matt.   We are asking you to make this a double good deed and advocate for this land to be donated to Right 2 Dream Too for their relocation.
