This is a petition for the ban on all advertising and promotion of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. This would include motor shows promoting new cars.

Air pollution is linked to about 40,000 premature deaths each year in the UK, (Royal College of Physicians, 2016).

Defra state that traffic emissions are the major cause of air pollution.

"Air pollution can have a damaging effect from when a baby is in the womb and continue throughout life to older age, playing a role in many chronic conditions such as cancer, asthma, heart disease, and neurological changes linked to dementia", (NHS).

Why are companies allowed to promote vehicles which cause these deaths and diseases?

The UK Government's ban on petrol and diesel vehicles in 2040 means that they will do nothing for the next 21 years. In which time car manufactures will continue to invest in petrol and diesel vehicles, knowing that by not preparing for the ban, they will be able to delay it as the deadline draws near. If the government cares about the health of UK citizens it will act now.

A ban on adverting of all ICE vehicles would incentivise car manufactures to invest in electric vehicles, and discourage them from continuing to invest in ICE technologies.

A ban would also raise awareness of the health crises caused by ICE vehicles.

As many electric car models have ICE versions, all adverts would need to clearly state that the car being advertised was electric, and would have to list the range of the vehicle.
