Minnesota deputy Brett Arthur Berry  was caught on surveillance footage behind Black Bear Casino in Carlton, Minnesota, abusing his K-9 partner, Boone, on June 15 2015 at a K-9 training event. Footage shows the dog was slammed in to the ground and then smacked repeatedly. Local police reported their findings to Berry's police department Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and he was put on administrative leave, and faced two misdemeanor charges, one for animal cruelty and one for assaulting a public safety dog.  On August 14, 2015 Brett Arthur Berry returned to work only less than 2 months after brutally assaulting his K-9 partner.  In January, Berry pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty and charges of assaulting a public safety dog were dropped. On February 17, 2016,  Brett Berry was sentenced to one year probation in lieu of the 90 day jail sentence.  We ask that Mr Berry be removed from the police force and prosecuted under the Federal Law Enforcement Animal Protection Act.
