Iceland against animal abuse ha iniciado esta petición dirigida a MAST - Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority y

We need your help by signing to:

• Require the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to implement real measures and policies that protect animals kept in zoo parks.

• Demand more rigorous audits and controls by MAST - Icelandic Food and Veterinary authorities to zoo parks.

 • Require the authorities to relocate the confiscated animals in adequate centers according to international guidelines.

• Demand spaces and enclosures that meet the natural needs of each species, as well as express patterns of natural behavior.

• Demand zoo parks to provide an attractive but non-invasive public experience. Coherent distance between the cages and the public.

• Require zoo parks to provide a space for birds where they can refuge, nest, climb, fly, bathe, dig, etc.

• Require enclosures that allow adequate acoustics, complementary UV lighting and suitable temperature for each species.

• Require zoo parks to create and enforce a biosafety protocol where contact or contagion of diseases transmitted by pests is avoided.

• Demand feeding that maintains the ideal weight for each species taking into account their age, size and needs.

Basis:

Iceland is  recognize worldwide for taking care of its nature but that's not the case it comes to the exotic and wild animals kept in some places for exhibition. Slakki is a zoo that has been functioning for many years as an animal exhibition establishment. There have been several complaints in different social media because of the way they are keeping the animals.

Conditions of animals in Slakki:

• Birds confined by dozens in small cages.

• Animals under obvious stress. Example: self-injuring animals.

• There is no safety distance between humans and cages or spaces, for the tranquility of animals.

• Animals belonging to the rain forests exposed to the cold wind of Iceland due to the inadequate enclosures in which they are found.

• Cages and spaces too small that do not allow animals to express natural behavior patterns.

• Presence of pests like mice in the food of other species. Example: we found a mouse eating the food of the macaws.

• Inadequate diet.

• Visible under weight of animals.

• Dirty tanks, spaces and cages.

• Noise pollution due to the proximity to the public and noise from the shows with birds, guinea pigs and others.
