Allow indoor live music in Massachusetts

Allow indoor live music in Massachusetts

The Issue

The unnecessary and unconstitutional mandate for bars, restaurants and live music venues needs to be overturned. Massachusetts needs to allow live entertainment inside as long as patrons are properly distanced under the current guidelines. There is absolutely no science that tells us that having a live band inside is more dangerous than up to 10 people sitting at the same table. The governor has said countless times to “follow the science”. What science is telling anyone that if a band performs on stage that it is a public health risk?

Countless bars and restaurants along with entertainment venues have closed due to Covid 19 and the ones who have survived thus far are suffering gravely. Many more will close in the near future if they are not allowed to allow to operate with some sort of normalcy.

We are not asking for 100% capacity or even to be allowed to dance. We are simply asking for Governor Baker to be reasonable and allowing singing and wind instruments to be performed as long as they are socially distanced from the audience.

This isn’t only affecting the venues but it’s affecting tens of thousands of working musicians, audio, video, lighting technicians who have been devastated financially.

We were told in March that we needed to flatten the curve. We’ve more than accomplished that. This has lasted long enough and people’s lives actually depend on this. The citizens of Massachusetts need to be free to enjoy themselves while being responsible. The mental health of people are in jeopardy. Depression is affecting so many people and it’s directly connected to the 7 plus months of mandates.

We ask that Massachusetts establishments are IMMEDIATELY allowed to host live entertainment of all sorts as long as the current guidelines are followed.
