Racism and Royal Titles - A Time To End Both

The Issue

Racism and Royal Titles - A Time To End Both

The racist institution of royal families should no longer be recognized by media.  The conferral of noble title, in many cases, conveys societal recognition, privilege, land and riches all on the basis of parentage. The current media's continued glamorization and glorification of royalty implicitly reinforces racism since the inherent nature of royalty is a heritable line of succession that does not provide for inclusion, except by marriage.

The recent abdication of royal title by Mr. Harry Charles Albert David and Ms. Meghan Markle should be highly commended and illuminates the path forward in ending the repugnant reign of racism embedded in this antiquated institution.  Kings, Queens, Dukes, Duchesses, Princes and Princesses should only be a part of history and bed time stories for children.

Historically, royal families fostered colonization, slavery and other forms of human degradation and exploitation. Even in the present, certain individual royals may be implicated in felonious crimes or reprehensible conduct.  Thus, there is no reason to perpetuate and exalt royalty, whose only qualification for their privileged standing in society is their parentage.

By signing this petition we urge: That no print, broadcast or internet news media in the United States should, going forward, use or invoke any royal title in reporting on individuals who claim this false mantle of privilege and elevation. Moreover, every media company should refrain from use of royal titles going forward and shall only use the first and surnames of such individuals or any other official non-royal title that the individual can legitimately claim; accordingly, any media continuing to use royal titles should be held accountable, for the insidious promotion of racism, by their Boards, share holders and the public at large.
