Add the Ice Climbers back into Super Smash Bros. as DLC

The Issue

We, the undersigned, really appreciate all of the hard work that Sora Ltd, Bandai Namco Games and Nintendo have put into Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. While the Wii U version isn't out yet (at time of writing), the 3DS version boasts the largest roster of any game in the series yet and really pushes the system to its limits to maintain a beautiful 60fps and produce what is honestly, one of the best games on the system. We cannot thank Masahiro Sakurai and the developers enough for their endeavours.

Admittedly though, we are disheartened to learn that one of the series' regular pair of fighters, who have been a part of the roster for thirteen years now, have been removed. We understand and appreciate the reasoning Sakurai gave for the decision - that the current way Smash Bros. fans know the characters to play would have been too much for the Nintendo 3DS hardware to handle. However, as it has already been confirmed that there will not be any cross-play between the two versions and that they have different stages anyway, we do not believe that the Wii U version should be prevented from being the best possible version of Super Smash Bros. that it can be as a result of the limitations of its sister system.

The Wii U version of the game is no doubt currently in its debug stage (at time of writing), so adding in another character before release will most likely be too much to ask for. However, we would like to ask Masahiro Sakurai to please consider making the Ice Climbers available as downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in the future.

Alternatively, there are other ways for Popo and Nana to return to the fight in both iterations of the game. In their original and currently, only game (which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year), the player simply controls Popo, with Nana being to the game what Luigi is to Mario Bros. Although it would result in a change to their play style, Popo could have been added into the games as a solo fighter, with Nana being an alternate costume (like is the case with characters including Robin, Wii Fit Trainer and most notably, Bowser Jr).

We are not suggesting a boycott of the games or devaluing the amazing work that has already been done, but we want Nintendo to know that there is a demand for the Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros.

Please help spread word of this cause through social media (preferably using the hashtag #IceClimbers) and post on Miiverse to please let Nintendo know on their official channels that you want the Ice Climbers back!
