Dear Supporters, We have good news! Last month Liz was reviewed by two investigators working on behalf of the Governor's office. This is the first step towards possible commutation of sentence. Liz felt confident that her interview went well. We learned today from Liz's lawyer that the investigators will be sending their report (and we hope, their recommendation for Liz's commutation) to Governor Brown this week. Now's the time to remind Brown that Liz has thousands of supporters on the outside and urge him to commute her Life Without Parole sentence. Please take the time to call and email his office on Wednesday, December 3rd. We've provided sample scripts below. With gratitude and hope, Liz, Adrienne, and Liz's family Email: pardons@gov.ca.gov Subject line: Please Support Mary Liz Stroder's Commutation (COM-2367-15) Dear Governor Brown, I understand that you are reviewing Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Stroder's (W58907) application for commutation (COM-2367-15) and the recent investigative report conducted on her case and character. Thank you for considering her commutation. Liz is a survivor of intimate partner violence who is currently serving her 21st year in prison for a murder committed by her abusive boyfriend in 1993. At the time of this crime, Liz suffered from Battered Women's Syndrome; although no evidence of the abuse was presented in her trial. Later her private investigator admitted that "in light of what we know today about Battered Women Syndrome, I believe Ms. Stroder could have been convicted of a lesser offense." Throughout her incarceration Liz has committed to her own rehabilitation and in a recent psychological report was deemed "no risk" to public safety. I support Liz's commutation and believe the community would benefit greatly from her release. Thank you. Sincerely, (Name) Phone: 916-445-2481 Thank you for considering the commutation of Mary Elizabeth Stroder (W58907). My name is ______ and I am from _______. I understand you will be reviewing her application and her recent investigative report in the near future. I am calling to urge you to commute Liz's Life Without Parole sentence so that she may be reviewed by the Board of Parole Hearings and released back into the community. Liz is a survivor of intimate partner violence and needs a second chance at freedom. During her 22 years in prison she has focused on her rehabilitation and was recently deemed "no risk" to public safety. Commuting Liz's sentence is the right thing to do. I support her and urge you to do the same. Her commutation case number is: COM-2367-15. Thank you.
