Cody Brenner for Wiccan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Issue

Hey, you may not know who I am, if you don’t, that’s alright - I’ll get to it later. Right now though, I need your help. I have this dream, goal, a life purpose to fulfill and I know I can’t do it alone. You all know the incredible cast and crew of Marvel Studios, and for as long as I can remember I’ve dreamt to be a part of that team of astonishing people and play Wiccan/Billy Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Currently a younger version of the character is already in the MCU, and I’d love to show you why I would be a perfect fit for the role of grown up Billy. Wiccan has been a huge inspiration to me and I would be grateful if I could borrow a moment of your time to listen to my story and help support my dream.

For those who don’t know me, my name is Cody Brenner. I was born in California and have lived in Arizona as well as parts of Texas, where I currently reside in an apartment in Tyler along with my twin sister. I have been a huge fan of Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe since I was younger, and have made it a tradition with my family to see the MCU films opening night. My love for these films and this universe is deep-rooted as they have been my inspiration and motivation for as long as I can remember. The quality, detail, talent and hard work that goes into the MCU is astounding to me, and I have always dreamed to be apart of it.

Growing up, I have especially been inspired by Wiccan. I came out as gay back in 2013, and seeing someone like Billy in the comics made me feel like I could be a superhero too. I don’t typically get to see guys like myself in media, and when I do, we’re often portrayed as weak or as an accessory piece. Billy wasn’t made to be those things. If you don’t know the character, he is this powerful reality warper destined to rewrite the laws of magic with the king of space as his husband, amongst other things. The lives and directions of these characters may not seem like much, but it’s always inspired and reminded me that I could be something more than what the world tells me I am. I believe that Wiccan was made to represent, inspire and empower those who the world may misjudge at first.

Billy, who deals with Avengers level threats frequently, also goes through tough, self-doubting moments at times that I myself could relate to, but he pulls himself out of it at the end of the day and if he can then I can too. I felt connected to Billy immediately after noticing all of the similarities we shared and over time adopted the character as my own. I see myself in him and care about Wiccan immensely. I know it may seem silly or childish to care about these comic book heroes so deeply, but Wiccan has helped me see myself in a better light when I was not able to. I want nothing more than to portray him in the best possible way, whatever it takes.

I know this is not easy work, but I am more than eager to go the distance. I will move mountains, push a jeep up a hill, spend countless nights on lines and scenes, anything I need to do this right. I have seen the work Marvel Studios’ incredible cast and crew go through, and if I am honest, it terrifies me. But what scares me even more is looking back one day when I am old and grey, knowing I never gave this dream of mine a chance. I don’t want this for status or fortune, but because I want to pay forward what Wiccan did for me. I am unapologetically passionate about this character and I know deep down that I can portray Wiccan in an authentic, vulnerable and honest way.

I may not have any marquee value, but I truly believe this role is calling to me. If there was anything in this life that I know I was born to do, it’s this. I have tried to let this go, to let impossible dreams fade, but I cannot sleep and I cannot rest. Kate Bishop once said “I have no powers and not nearly enough training, but I’m doing this anyways. Being a superhero is amazing. I think everyone should try it.” I find myself in a similar place, I may not be the most experienced, but I know I can do this. To be able to inspire someone like me in the way I was inspired by Wiccan would be an honor. Kate said it best, I think everyone should try it.

For most of my life I have rarely gone about asking for help, but I know when I am outnumbered, and right now I need backup. This is where you come in - I don’t have the following or platform to get Marvels attention, so I need your help. All I am asking for is a few minutes of your time to sign this petition and share it with your friends.

It’s a small task that would truly mean a lot in helping me achieve my dream. If you’d like to help further, I also have social media posts on Twitter and Instagram @Wiccan1849 and could use help in making those more seen. You could also use the hashtag #CodyForWiccan and tagging Kevin Feige (@KevFeige on Twitter), Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios on Twitter and Instagram) and Sarah Finn Casting Company (@sarahfinncasting on Instagram) in your post. Thank you again for taking the time to read and sign this petition, it means the world to me.

Excelsior.
