The current martin county school district dress code not only infringes upon students’ creativity & self expression, but also contains heavy misogynistic undertones & inconsistency in regards to the enforcement of the code upon female students vs their male counterparts. Enforcing a dress code mainly catered towards woman under the precedent that their bodies are a distraction to the learning environment is not only a false but appalling lesson for mcsd to be presenting to impressionable youth. The current dress code not only sexualizes feminine bodies, but overall devalues the female education by enforcing students leave the classroom until they are dressed in what is deemed a “non-distracting” manner. Meanwhile, these actions support the ideology that “boys will be boys”. Instead, the school system should redirect the energy they are currently using to police the feminine body into educating students on how sexualizing their classmates is flawed. All in all, this petition is rallying for change within the current martin county school district dresscode & the way it is written and enforced in a misogynistic manner.
