Keep the Books in Alderman

The Issue

We, the undersigned undergraduate students at the University of Virginia, fully support the permanent retention of all physical materials in Alderman Library, including books and microfilm, that are currently housed there.

In the course of upcoming renovations to Alderman Library, we request that all physical materials and books currently housed within Alderman remain in the building for ease of access and research, and that they not be moved offsite. We oppose any remodeling plans for the Alderman Library building that would involve transforming space that currently houses books and other physical materials, into study space or seating space that would not house books and other physical materials.

Furthermore, we oppose the creation of a second storage facility on Ivy Road that would house any proportion of the physical materials that are currently housed in Alderman Library. We hold that the creation of such a facility will detrimentally limit our access as undergraduates to the library's resources, and will make accessing materials inefficient in the course of our daily lives as students at an academic institution.
