Don't Kill Shaw's Tavern! Shaw Needs More Successful Restaurants!

Shaw's Tavern opened just a week and a half ago at 6th & S, to the delightment of those who live in the Shaw-Howard, LeDroit, Shaw, Bloomingdale and Eckington neighborhoods.  Finally, a restaurant/bar in walking distance!

Yet an innocent mistake made at the bar's opening may jeoparize the liquor license any restaurant needs to survive in this difficult economy.  The City Paper reports that ABRA, DC's liquor licensing agency, is investigating Shaw's Tavern for allegedly serving (but not selling) alcohol without a license at a charity event for victims of domestic violence they hosted as their "soft opening."'

Apparently, ABRA would have given them a "one day" license for this special event, but the folks at Shaw's simply failed to get such a license—an innocent and harmless violation of the City's arcane alcohol rules.

Please show your support for Shaw's Tavern by taking a moment to "sign" this petition! If you can, stop by the hearing Wednesday August 10 at 3:30 pm at 2000 14th ST, Suite 400S (14th & U).

Otherwise, please support new local businesses by dining at Shaw's Tavern, Red Toque kebob (6th & R) and Beau Thai (NJ & R).  These fledgling businesses are helping to revitalize our neighhorhood.  But they need local patronage to survive, as the very sad closure of Zee's Trinidadian (6th & Florida) showed earlier this year.
