Good morning everyone..
Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition.. And also thanks for throwing in a few dollars here and there to help move the petition along. Thank you.
many of you have seen the documentary I directed on Marsha. ."Marsha Hunt's Sweet Adversity" is out on Blu-Ray and streams on many platforms like Amazon Prime, TubiTV.com and YouTube Movies. I bring this up because when I went over to visit with Marsha, she was in the middle of watching her DVD copy on her TV. So we watched together. It was amazing to watch her body language. She was so intent on taking in every word- as if she was hearing it for the first time.
When it was over, I clapped and cheered. She sat for a minute..very quiet and then the words flowed.. She told me how proud she was of her work with the homeless and helping to open the first homeless shelter in the Valley. I reminded her that L.A. Family Housing raised millions of dollars and have torn down the old motel and have built a "state of the art" facility. She was blown away. She couldn't believe that the hotel was gone! I also reminded her that back in 1986, when they opened the Valley Shelter in that seedy motel, she had "planted the seed"- and now she has lived long enough to see the fruits of her labor- her activism.. While the group she helped start in 1986 to run the shelter struggled, L.A. family Housing took over- and have never looked back- Marsha planted the seed. She was one of the first to recognize homelessness. She often discussed this with Mayor Tom Bradley who was a good friend.
We had a great talk...ultimately all our conversations circled back to her days in Hollywood.. To see that look in her eyes..pure joy in the memories she can conjure up.
Thanks again for your support. Let's get to 1000..I think Change.org, once you get to 1000, they recommend the post and as always if anyone has journalist friends that can cover our quest for Marsha to receive this honor, plz let me know.
have a wonderful weekend everyone- roger
