Mars and Hershey's: End child slavery in your chocolate #childslavery

The issue

When I think of 5-year-olds, I envision clean, laughing children playing with barbies and Lego. Not swinging weapons on cocoa plantations. These innocent children are being stolen, abused and enslaved from the minimum age of 5. These kids are being told that their parents are abandoning them and don’t want them anymore. Never to be seen again. If these innocent babies try to escape, they will get viciously exploited and abused by their kidnappers.

Mars and Hershey’s profit from children aged as little as five years old! However, the age of cocoa slaves typically ranges from five to sixteen years old. They go through up to 12+ hours of intense labour and excruciating pain every day, in harsh and unimaginable environments. Yet these children barely get paid a single cent!

I’m calling on these two corporations to promptly commit to introducing ethically sourced cocoa in order to produce chocolate without the complicity of child slaves (aka "cocoa slaves"). Or for this 103 BILLION dollar industry to increase their non-existent wages! They have the power to do this, but haven't!

Worldwide known brands such as Cadbury and Nestlé have introduced products sourced from ethical cocoa. The chocolate industry claims that these companies are nowhere near reducing child labour. They are not willing to connect with the growing movement of ethical cocoa and fair-trade products. They’re even blocking progress in regards to the brutal treatment against the countless number of children.

Hershey’s and Mars are both counting on sales to boost their profits, which is rapidly increasing every single second. However, now we can use this time to spread a message – They should not be allowed to avoid their responsibilities.

Please sign this petition to help make sure Hershey’s and Mars show responsibility and take action to end any involvement of child slavery from their supply chains.
