Margaret River Petiton Update!
Jun 16, 2020 —
Hello & THANK YOU!
Last night we hit 10,000 signatures and today marks one week since the petition began so I thought I would keep everyone updated on the progress! but first I would like to personally thank everyone who has signed, shared, commented and have been actively involved in the helping of this fight! Together we may be strong enough and loud enough to make a difference and I am very grateful that so many of you have Margaret Rivers best intentions in mind.
I will begin with the most alarming update, it has been revealed to us that Marriott International is not only planning on building this destructive hotel but sadly this is just 1/5 of the plots they have bought in Margaret River. They own and plan on building on 6.9 hectares of land, this is 17 acres of destruction to our fragile coast driven by greed.
I have emailed many people about this issue including Marriot International and I have also sent our premier “Mark McGowan” an email addressing all of our concerns, but he has not replied to the email, so I encourage anyone else who may also like to assist and address their concerns via email to Mark and help him in speaking up about this issue.
I have been in contact with the media surrounding our petition and with members of change.org. Our petition and fight have been mentioned in news articles which have helped the petition grow and will hopefully be further promoted in articles, newspapers, and radio stations as the petition and fight persists.
Lastly, we have many dedicated people who are fighting for what is right! With many people from the Margaret River community coming together to regularly discuss the issues to further help and find ways to stop this multibillion-dollar company!
So how you can help?
- Share this petition daily on social media, to friends and family and bring it up in conversation! Each person who hears about this is another person with new ideas and strategies to help us with our fight!
- Contact our premier Mark McGowan, I am hoping he will listen to all of our voices in this and help stop the destruction from going ahead. Mark McGowan has been a huge influence on this and is the common face behind this decision. Please be sure to let him know your concerns and your reasoning behind stopping these constructions, more voices mean more action!
- Contact our tourism minister Paul Papalia, Paul is another face behind these decisions and also needs to be informed about all of our concerns and issues which building on this land will inevitably have.
- Lastly, keep your hopes and heads high and be sure to look out for any further updates.
Keep fighting for people power!
