The Issue

There is a digital petition through change.org by a local Ringwood East resident

It's absolute nonsense, he is petitioning to remove the level crossing  which is at a   T- intersection junction of Great Ryrie St and Bedford Rd in Ringwood.

Many level crossing across Melbourne are being removed and importance of which will be next has been raised.

I  advocated for road safety and initiated for the upgrade of the traffic light and signalling upgrade at this location  in 2012  and  seen completed (lights switched on) in 2017  through Liberal Goverment funding of a million dollar's.

There was so many  lives of resident's driving  at risk, taking right hand turn's on Great Ryrie St at T- intersection on a black spot location along Bedford Rd that traffic light's  were needed on Great Ryrie Street and signalling  had to be altered for the railway crossing on Bedford Road. VIC Road's made change's to  allowed speed and road work's adding third pedestrian crossing and traffic light's at Bedford Rd near Ringwood Secondary College. With 3 school's in the precinct, built up traffic during school hour's had driver's making rash decision's causing road and pedestrian accident's.

The campaign was started back in 2012, I wrote then raising dangerous driving condition   concern's through Maroondah Leader Newspaper and Maroondah City Council followed this up.  Because the council couldn't afford upgrade, a paper petition was run locally and 1000 names added. Support in cabinet allowed Michael Sukkar MP of Deakin to grant funding toward's upgrade if elected 2015. Having been elected 2016  the upgrade took place and year later, the light's switched on.

There is not  an affordable or future development alternative to  removing  this railway level crossing nor is there a way to reduce traffic congestion here.

It has now been  operating for 3 year's and with the level crossing signalling in conjunction with the  newly installed traffic light upgrade completed the local user's are  safer and reassured to be driving loved ones on the road no matter the  short delay waiting for a train to pass when boom gates are lowered. So  keep the  present level crossing in place.
