The old McGee Vet/Farm property on Rt. 20 is for sale and the potential buyer wants to put 188 residential units in 4 buildings, with over 300 parking spaces for cars. It would involve some wetland reconfiguration and fill, too. Can you imagine that many more cars choking Rt 20 during rush hour? Can you imagine living behind there on Helen Drive, for example, and seeing that complex looming behind you? Can you imagine taking the ONE area of green space away from that part of the city? I am disappointed that the city didn't exercise their right of first refusal, but now is the time to ask your Councilors to vote no on the special permit that is on their agenda May 4, Monday. I have heard a rumor that there is another potential buyer in the wings who would leave it as green space. Speak up, everyone! It's up to ALL of us to preserve as much as we can of our city's wetlands, streams, and green space! You can reach the councilors through their emails or via phone.
