Change Marlborough's Defense in Sexual Misconduct Case

Change Marlborough's Defense in Sexual Misconduct Case
The issue
I am urging the Marlborough community to stop any financial support to the school until Marlborough changes its defense responding to charges for allowing sexual misconduct to occur by staff member, Joseph Koetters, with multiple students for several years. I urge you to read about Koetter's criminal trial at http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-ex-marlborough-school-teacher-sexually-abuse-sentencing-students-20151021-story.html I also urge you to read how Marlborough School has responded to charges against the school itself at http://www.buzzfeed.com/katiejmbaker/marlborough-school-sex-abuse-victim-at-fault-for-staying-sil#.dyy41XjPJ Marlborough prides itself on being a place where young women can learn and express themselves in a safe environment, yet Marlborough's defense proves these values do NOT hold true today. Instead of "preparing young women for leadership and contribution," Marlborough has exposed its student population to a sexual predator for years by failing to respond appropriately to these serious cases of sexual misconduct. And, although Marlborough has previously acknowledged their failure to respond appropriately to these incidents, the school is now attempting to avoid all responsibility by blaming the first victim of sexual misconduct for not coming forward in a timely fashion, which the school states caused the subsequent assaults. In other words, Marlborough is blaming a teenage victim. For these reasons, I am urging the Marlborough Community to stand with me in solidarity and discontinue any financial support until Marlborough changes its stance in this case. Ultimately, as a Marlborough alumna, I want to remember Marlborough as a community that empowers women and provides a safe and supportive environment, but the school's victim blaming is tainting that image. So, please sign this petition if you want Marlborough to take responsibility for the sexual misconduct that happened on its campus, and offer support, rather than blame and shame, to the survivors of this sexual abuse.
