The M & S Sparks card has to be one of the most confusing and non-user friendly loyalty cards around.  Other companies like Boots and Sainsbury give customers money off at the till - it's a straightforward and simple money-saving system.  However, in order to obtain any sort of benefit from the M & S Sparks card customers have to negotiate their way around their complicated, time-consuming website where they are presented with limited offers on items that they don't necessarily want.  It just isn't worth the effort.  Customers can rack up tens of thousands of points without anything to show for it.  This is not just a bad idea, it's an M & S bad idea. What customers want is money off at the till.  It's as simple as that.
