The Issue

We are asking the Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department to reconsider the recent policy change that no longer allows markets and similar community events to operate past 5:00 PM.

As market hosts, vendors, and community members, we believe this change creates significant challenges for everyone involved. Texas weather can be extremely hot, making afternoon outdoor markets uncomfortable and potentially unsafe for vendors, customers, families, and event staff. Evening hours allow the community to enjoy these events when temperatures begin to cool and provide a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Many local vendors depend on evening markets to sell their products and connect with customers. Limiting events to 5:00 PM can reduce attendance, negatively impact vendor sales, and make it more difficult for small businesses to participate in community events.

Evening markets also bring families and members of the community together in a safer and more comfortable environment while supporting local small businesses.

We respectfully ask Edinburg Parks & Recreation to reconsider the 5:00 PM cutoff and continue allowing evening markets and community events, especially during the hotter months. We believe there is a way to work together to maintain reasonable park policies while still allowing local businesses, vendors, hosts, and residents to enjoy and benefit from these events.

If you are a vendor, market host, customer, or community member who believes evening markets should continue to be allowed, please sign this petition and make your voice heard.
