The People of Bestwood Village Need Answers From City Council Regarding Scheduled Works
The Issue
The people of Bestwood Village and wider community have been trying to get answers to some simple questions regarding the scheduled traffic calming works to Bestwood Road 'Kings Park' on our boundary into City Council Bulwell area. We have been trying all methods possible to get answers for over 8 weeks now with no valid response from anyone. We will not be ignored and stalling/hiding to get the works completed without the community having our answers is not acceptable.
1.// Regarding the *278 agreement*. We would like to know who set this out and who worked on it, and we are interested as to why was road surface discounted from the agreement. If there is a reason for this we simply would like to know what it is.
2. // At this time its not clear if it was City Council or another council or outside person who requested the traffic humps. We would like to know who this was and a basic explanation of why this is what we are getting. We would like to see the reasons for road humps opposed to other better solutions. We feel continuation of a bad method proven to not work is not a valid option for us. We want to find out if it was one person requesting this and if it was questioned and debated what the findings or reports that led us down this path.
3. // We would like to know why there was there no engagement or consultation with the village community or our representatives ie Gedling Councillors, County Councillors or Parish Councillors. We have explained this is an ongoing scenario. We want to work this out and fix for future issues regarding where we border city council.
4. // We would like to get clarification on if Nottinghamshire County Council or any other Councils were involved in planning discussions for traffic calming or were aware of what was being discussed and if not why.
5. // We have also been attempting to get simple urgent fixes to the road surface to make the road safer, which has included meeting highways on the road and also discussing much needed resurfacing. We still have nothing in writing from CIty Council highways to say when exactly the road will be resurfaced apart from it will be looked at once the planned traffic calming has been carried out.
6. // We would also like a discussion with the residents and the Councillors and MPs as to our existing road humps in the village and start discussing what we can all do to make our road safer for all road users and residents.
In basic terms we want to make the road safer. The speed lorries drive through our village is excessive and being that our pavements are narrow and the road also pedestrians are wallking very close to vehicles travelling at speed through the village. It is also very hard and dangerous to cross the road. The damage being caused to residents cars is an ongoing problem. The noise of lorries speeding through the village is terrible for residents of Moor Road and we want to discuss the villages concerns properly in a public meeting.
*A section 278 agreement (or S278) is a section of the Highways Act 1980 that allows developers to enter into a legal agreement with the council to make alterations or improvements to a public highway, as part of planning approval.*
