I will begin by saying that this petition is not some attempt at petty revenge for not getting what we want. I would never try to have someone removed from a position unless the issue had truly gotten out of hand. And, unfortunately, it has. Jason Rothenberg has proven to be unfit for the position of showrunner. He is immature when he interacts with the fans (despite what ship or character they support), feeds into drama that should be ignored by someone of his status, and lets his personal feelings win out over the professionalism he should be showing. He's said and done things that have caused unimaginable hatred and anger in many fans that can't possibly be good for the show or even the network as a whole. I bring this all up now because of the event that recently occurred, that (in all seriousness) damaged the mental health of thousands of LGBT+ youth. One article even called Rothenberg's work on 3x07 "the most insidious use of queerbaiting in a generation." As of writing this, two days after the incident, Rothenberg has stayed entirely silent, other than tweeting links to reviews/articles that are in his favor. When your fans, cast members, and even other writers from the show are circulating suicide hotlines and comforting people who now feel betrayed and worthless, and your showrunner has still said absolutely NOTHING, you should know you have a problem. One actor on the show, Ricky Whittle, has supposedly even left the project because of bullying/disagreement with Rothenberg. Now, as a fan, I of course don't know the whole story or any details of the situation. But for something like that to happen, there must have been some big problems. And with everything going on now that we DO know about, I don't doubt that. Jason Rothenberg needs to be replaced, it really just boils down to that. Keep him on-staff and demote him to a regular writer, I don't care. But he's abusing his power and it's harmful. Please, consider the bigger picture and make this all stop.
