On August 6, at half an hour before midnight, 97 dock workers employed at Hutchison Ports Australia were all sacked by text messages and email.

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with the 97 sacked “wharfies” (as they called in Australia), all members of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA).

Furthermore, we demand that Hutchison Ports Australia:

1. Immediately reinstate every single one of the 97 sacked dock workers.

2. Immediately stop “subcontracting” – sending its current shipping contracts to be loaded and unloaded by the other stevedoring companies, Patrick Stevedores and DP World.

El 6 de agosto, media hora antes de la medianoche, 97 trabajadores portuarios de Hutchison Ports Australia fueron despedidos vía mensaje de texto y mail.

Los abajo firmantes nos solidarizamos con los 97 trabajadores despedidos, afiliados de la Unión Marítima de Australia (MUA, por sus siglas en inglés).

Exigimos que Hutchison Ports Australia:

1. Reincorpore inmediatamente a todos y cada uno de los 97 trabajadores portuarios despedidos.

2. Basta de subcontratación. Que las embarcaciones no sean enviadas a carga y descarga a otras empresas como Patrick Stevedores y DP World.
