Remove "Feminist" from the online poll "Which Word Should Be Banned in 2015?"

TIME magaze, which has the world's largest circulation for a weekly news magazine and a readership of 25 million, has included the word "Feminist" in an  online poll asking readers to vote on "words that should be banned in 2015". It is listed alongside popular and light-hearted slang phrases such as "bae", "basic" and "om non nom" and is the only word on the list that refers to a social movement and system of beliefs and values that is shared by millions of people throughout the world. By including the word Feminist on a poll that is supposed to refer to overused and annoying slang phrases, TIME is trivializing feminism, the feminist movement and the struggle of the countless men and women for whom the fight for gender equality is a daily struggle. Earlier this year, TIME broke ground by featuring transgender activist and actress Laverne Cox on its cover. Including the word "Feminist" on this list is a massive step backwards for the publication. TIME, "feminist" is not some 2014 buzzword that needs to be archived in the annals of Urban Dictionary. A feminist is a person who believes that men and women deserve the same basic human rights. If TIME magazine believes in equal rights for men and women, we urge you to remove this word from an otherwise satirical and light-hearted list.
