Save Our Fillmore Neighborhood

The Issue

If approved by the city of San Francisco, Shell Auto Repair will be bulldozed and replaced by a 3000+sf 24 hour chain convenience store (called Loop). More gas pumps will also be added.  The Shell Auto Repair Shop at 2501 California Street has been servicing our community for over 80 years.  We need this honest, small local business that really helps us & services our cars NOT a 7/11 with a salad bar.

Why should you be outraged?

  • Mega convenience store belongs on freeway rest stop not Pacific Heights.
  • 24 Hour super size convenience stores have shown to increase crime.
  • More Gas Pumps+ Already Busy & Dangerous intersection= Safety Issue.
  • Uptick in traffic but not likely increased business for local businesses.
  • Loop chain store will undercut prices of other local business putting our local merchants at a disadvantage

  
All this diverts & blocks locals & customers from shopping & eating in Fillmore Street area.  We need to keep services in our neighborhood.

“Dear Neighbors, Thank you for your emails regarding the Shell gas station at California and Steiner - please know I've received many similar emails from other residents. At this point, the Planning Department is reviewing Shell's application, and no hearing date has been scheduled. After speaking with the planner assigned to the project, they do not anticipate scheduling a hearing date until sometime later in the fall. I want to be clear that I do not support a 24-hour convenience store at their location, and you can count on my support to oppose their current application. However, please know that when the hearing time is scheduled we will need all the community support possible, and hope you will be able to come testify as well. If you would like to be kept up to date on the project, please email Catherine Stefani from my office (catherine.stefani@sfgov.org), who is going to continue to track this project in my office and coordinate with the Planning Department. I am sending similar follow-up emails to everyone this afternoon who has sent similar emails to my direct email account, and we will be back in touch once the Planning Department schedules their hearing.
