Calling on the Welsh Government to adopt a similar business rate scheme as England

Calling on the Welsh Government to adopt a similar business rate scheme as England

The Issue

Summary: We the undersigned call on the Welsh Government to support our traders by addressing the issue of business rates and to adopt a similar scheme to what was outlined in the Chancellor’s recent budget.

The issue: The Welsh Government need to take note on business rates. Because of devolution, it's up to the Welsh Government to choose whether to replicate the business rate help that has been given to England in the Chancellor's most recent budget. The Chancellor and the UK Government are backing high streets by cutting business rates by a third for two years. Rates will be cut by a third for retailers with a rateable value under £51,000, saving up to 90 per cent of all shops up to £8,000 each year. This is a step in the right direction to #HelpOurHighStreet. By lowering business rates in Wales, the Welsh Government will be giving our high street a lifeline by allowing small businesses to prosper.

Take action! If the Welsh Government doesn't listen to us and back our campaign then we're worried about the future of our high streets. As it stands today, we're seeing countless boarded up shops and empty windows in towns across Wales.
To adopt a similar business rate scheme as in England, the Welsh Government would give towns across the length and breadth of Wales that chance to revitalise our town centres.
