Boycott The Swinton Estate
The Issue
A hen harrier has been found shot dead on the Swinton Estate.
This is the latest episode in a long history of wildlife persecution:
"A gunman was filmed hiding in the heather at dusk near a hen harrier roost on the estate in November 2018, seemingly using dogs to flush the rare birds from vegetation.
One of the estate’s gamekeepers was also convicted in 2014 of twice setting an illegal ‘pole trap’, which breaks the legs of perching birds of prey, in woodland in Swinton Park’s grounds.
A satellite-tagged hen harrier, named ‘Bowland Betty’ by conservationists when it fledged from its nest in Lancashire, was also found shot on Swinton Park’s grouse moor in 2012.
Another satellite-tagged hen harrier vanished without trace on the estate in 2003, with foul play strongly suspected."
The Swinton Estate has a thriving hotel and leisure facilities. We the undersigned pledge to Boycott this business until measures are put in place to stop this illegal persecution.
