There are hundreds of Australians currently stuck in Peru that cannot return home due to travel restrictions imposted by Peru as a result of the COVID outbreak.

The only commercial flight wishing to return Australians back costs approximately $5k per person. This astronomical cost is unaffordable to most of the travellers.

DFAT and the Australian Embassy in Peru have so far been vague and inaccessible in their communication around getting their citizens home. Many governments across the globe have organised repatriation flights for their citizens at reasonable costs.

We urge Marise Payne, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and other arms of the Australian government to take initiative and lead to organising a flight to return us home in a safe and timely manner. We also urge the government to inform these Australians in a timely and detailed manner to their plans.
