Homeless Criminal Accountability: The Ignored Crisis in Oregon
The Issue

1. Public Safety is threatened. Harassment, assaults, vandalism, destruction and theft are rising in Salem and all around Oregon. As a small business owner, I have lost over $100,000 due to theft and damage this last year from countless situations involving homeless people. Insurance claims have provided $0 back to me because of high deductibles. With the current system, these criminals are allowed to walk away with a "fine" that will go unpaid with no liability for the losses that they have caused me. I've had to hire security at night to ensure there is no damage or theft and so my employees can walk to their cars safely.
2. Public health is deteriorating. Garbage, rotting food, and feces is left on public sidewalks bringing rodents and a host of diseases. I am forced to clean this myself or pay my employees to clean this, costing me more money. Public parks, biking trails and recreational facilities are too dirty and dangerous to use.
3. Quality of life is affected. Drug use is increasingly rampant through this town causing individuals to make erratic and scary decisions threatening the well-being of citizens and their businesses.
As the homeless issues continue to worsen, due to the city and state not doing anything, our quality of life and businesses are taking a hit. Who would want to visit a town covered in garbage and human waste? With less attraction to this area, businesses and citizens are going to be forced to close or move elsewhere.
We tax paying and law abiding citizens demand justice and accountability.
Please sign our petition to make Oregon address these issues and stop homeless criminals.
