Support the Housing Element

The Issue

The Marin County Housing Element is a vital tool in the fight against high housing cost, the displacement of our seniors, and traffic congestion. After two years of deliberation, it's time to pass the Housing Element.

Quick facts:

 - This housing element is required by state laws in place since 1968. It simply lists potential housing that is already allowed by the existing zoning established by local decision-makers over many years and following thorough environmental review.

- If the county doesn't pass a housing element by January 31, 2015, regional, state, and federal transportation funding will be reduced.

- This housing element reaffirms the county's last housing element, passed after considerable debate in 2013.

Opponents of affordable housing are calling two years of deliberation "fast-track.” They're threatening to take Marin to court unless the housing element is delayed and they get their way. In short, they're abusing Marin's democratic process.

Join our coalition to stand up for democracy, stand up for our seniors and people of all incomes, and stand up for affordable housing. Tell the Board of Supervisors to pass the Housing Element on time.
