Eradicate Liquor in Your Local Sari-sari Store

According to a survey conducted by Drug & Alcohol Rehab in Thailand (2015), Filipinos are the second highest consumers of alcohol in South East Asia. As time goes by, not only adults, but also those who belong to the minor age bracket are being intoxicated in liquor at an increasing rate. It is undeniable that excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages bring harm to both physical and mental health. Surprisingly, even with having this awareness in mind, most regular alcohol drinkers still cannot give up their bad habit.

One factor that contributes to the continuous consumption of liquor among local citizens is the presence of alcoholic beverages in neighboring sari-sari stores. Since these stores are conveniently situated near the villagers' residence areas, it can easily be accessible by those who demand to consume alcohol whenever they want. Thus, purchasing those bottles of liquor would be easier, but on the other hand, making it more difficult for them to control their alcoholism.

In connection to that, it has also been observed that minors are still able to purchase alcoholic beverages in sari-sari stores. To solve this emerging concern, this petition aims to strengthen the existing Senate Bill No. 2636 entitled "An Act Prohibiting the Access of Minors to Alcohol and Penalizing Establishments that Furnish Alcohol to Minors." Our proposed solution is to establish a stronger cooperation with the government agencies to impose a more strict monitoring and implementation of the aforementioned provision. By eradicating liquor in our local sari-sari stores, a healthier population of Filipinos might soon arise. To conclude, we want to clarify that it is not wrong to drink alcoholic beverages. However, too much of everything is bad, right? That is why when you drink, do it in moderation.
